Bill Dooley and John Krumm are known as The Hapa-Haule Boys (pronounced happa howlee). Hapa-haule is a Hawaiian term meaning half-white and was particularly applied to the music that grew out of the combination of traditional Hawaiian music and American swing music of the thirties and forties.
They sing swing tunes of this genre, popular Hawaiian tunes, and songs in the Hawaiian tongue. They also perform tunes in the ki ho 'alu, or slack-key style; a method of retuning the guitar so that rich chord textures may be obtained.
They have performed for many luaus and parties. Their love of Hawaiian culture and their deep connection to the music of this island paradise makes them true haule boys.
